On Tuesday, August 23, Mayor Eric Garcetti introduced plans for creating new, good-paying jobs across Los Angeles County. At 7 a.m., Garcetti addressed construction workers at Greenland USA’s Metropolis, located just two blocks from the Staples Center and L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles. In addition, Pan-Pacific's Manny Renteria addressed the crowd of 2,000 with a thank you for their safe work and allowing him to return home to his family each and every day. "I'm very grateful to Webcor, Greenland and the City of Los Angeles for providing us this job site to showcase our work and showcase what union work really is," said Renteria. "I'd like to thank them for allowing me to go home every single day. I'd like to sincerely thank you guys who make sure that you are working safely above me. I have a 3-month-old little girl and its the best thing to go home to." Following his remarks, the mayor toured the property. Metropolis will span two full city blocks, connecting the financial and entertainment districts, while providing guests and residents a new standard for urban living. Phase one of the project is scheduled for completion later this year. The second phase is slated to finish in 2018. https://youtu.be/Ro0CImOlLmM
