PROJECT INFO

Construction began in November 2015 for the 22-month Office of the Chief Medical Examiner project. The $65 million, bond-funded project moved the Medical Examiner out of the cramped, seismically deficient Hall of Justice into a modern, expanded facility in the Bayview.

The San Francisco Medical Examiner coordinates the investigation and certification for more than 1,200 manners of deaths each year including natural, homicide, suicide, and accident -- and deaths of persons who cannot immediately be identified.

The new and improved Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is a 46,000 square foot, two-story building providing a seismically safe structure housing each of the OCME’s programmatic and first-responder functions consisting of: a medical complex, forensics laboratory, administration, field investigations, building support, and public functions, such as body identification.

Pan-Pacific installed all plumbing systems including lab gases and the emergency fuel oil system. Each plumbing system was built per OSHPD specifications as the new OCME building will be acting as an Emergency Facility in the event of a seismic event.

Pan-Pacific performed Fuel Oil work on the project including permitting, engineering, coordination, decommissioning and removing existing fuel equipment including a 20,000 gallon fuel tank.
